But now ad prices are low as hell, so sites have to either cut costs, put up a paywall, introduce a crowdfunding platform, or put in more ads.Ĭutting costs means cutting talent, which is a poor long term strategy as your writers and editors are your primary draw. Historically, it was never a free service until the advent of the internet and blogs, partially because ads were a great way to generate profit alternatively. Unfortunately, thats the big issue written journalism is dealing with.
